George Bush: Making the World "Better" One Lie at a Time

From MoveOn.org:
To hear President Bush tell it, Iraq is a bed of roses: "Our strategy is succeeding," he said last week. Yesterday at the U.N., he said Iraq is "on the path to democracy and freedom."
Yet the CIA told Bush recently that the scenarios we're really facing there range from a quagmire to a bloodbath. The CIA's July report outlines three possibilities for Iraq, ranging from "an Iraq whose stability would remain tenuous" to "civil war," according to the New York Times.
Senator Bob Graham (D-FL) is calling on Bush to level with us, by releasing the report, formally called a National Intelligence Estimate (NIE), to the public. Graham, the former chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, has read the NIE, and he thinks we all should see it too.
Join Senator Graham in demanding that President Bush to face the facts and tell us the truth about Iraq, by releasing the NIE, at:
http://www.moveon.org/tellthetruth/
It's not just Democrats who are questioning the President's grip on reality.
Senator Chuck Hagel (NE), a Republican, says: "The worst thing we can do is hold ourselves hostage to some grand illusion that we're winning. Right now, we are not winning. Things are getting worse." "The fact is, we're in trouble. We're in deep trouble in Iraq."
Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) also supports releasing the NIE and says: "We made serious mistakes right after the initial successes by not having enough troops there on the ground, by allowing the looting, by not securing the borders." Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), says "he believes the situation in Iraq is going to get worse before it gets better, adding that he believes the administration has done a 'poor job of implementing and adjusting at times.'" and says "We do not need to paint a rosy scenario for the American people...."
Senator Richard Lugar (R-IN) says it's "exasperating for anybody look at this from any vantage point."
Those are Republicans talking. Here's what the generals and national security experts are saying, in a terrific recent piece in the UK's Guardian newspaper:
Retired general William Odom, former head of the National Security Agency, said: "Bush hasn't found the WMD. Al-Qaida, it's worse, he's lost on that front. That he's going to achieve a democracy there? That goal is lost, too. It's lost." He adds: "Right now, the course we're on, we're achieving Bin Laden's ends."
Retired general Joseph Hoare, the former marine commandant and head of US Central Command, [said]: "The idea that this is going to go the way these guys planned is ludicrous. There are no good options.... The priorities are just all wrong."
Jeffrey Record, professor of strategy at the Air War College, said: "I see no ray of light on the horizon at all. The worst case has become true..."
W. Andrew Terrill, professor at the Army War College's strategic studies institute -- and the top expert on Iraq there -- said: "I don't think that you can kill the insurgency"... "The idea there are x number of insurgents, and that when they're all dead we can get out is wrong. The insurgency has shown an ability to regenerate itself because there are people willing to fill the ranks of those who are killed"... "Most Iraqis consider us occupiers, not liberators."
General Odom [also] said: "This is far graver than Vietnam. There wasn't as much at stake strategically, though in both cases we mindlessly went ahead with the war that was not constructive for US aims. But now we're in a region far more volatile, and we're in much worse shape with our allies."... "I've never seen [tensions] so bad between the office of the secretary of defence and the military. There's a significant majority believing this is a disaster." Just as important are the opinions of those whose loved ones are serving in Iraq, like Martha Jo McCarthy, whose husband is on National Guard duty there. She says:
"Everyone supports the troops, and I know they're doing a phenomenal job over there, not only fighting but building schools and digging wells. But supporting the troops has to mean something more than putting yellow-ribbon magnets on your car and praying they come home safely."
"I read the casualty Web site every day and ask myself, 'Do I feel safer here?' No. I don't think we can win this war through arrogance. Arrogance is different from strength. Strength requires wisdom, and I think we need to change from arrogance to solid strength."
Join Senator Graham now in calling on President Bush to face the facts and level with us, by releasing the CIA's report, at:
http://www.moveon.org/tellthetruth/
President Bush has got to tell us the truth about Iraq. No weapons of mass destruction. No Saddam-al Qaeda connection. The mission is not accomplished. The transition has not been peaceful and stable. Attacks on our troops are increasing, not decreasing. These failures lie solely with the president, and he owes us an honest explanation.

Again, I will ask everyone to research the FACTS! These are not subjective issues once you move past emotionally charged responses. If you do not agree with me, fine. It is your right, and I would defend that right. I merely ask that we all examine the issues more closely and not be pitted against one another by partisan politics. It would seem fairly apparent that the Bush Administration's agenda has nothing to do with American ideals of democracy or freedom. And that is the truly frightening aspect. Ask yourself honestly: What is the goal?

GIMME A BREAK

I'm sorry if some of you out there have a hard time dealing with the issues of the day. Admittedly, things are coming to a head, and sometimes tempers flare. Namecalling, of course, is not exactly keeping things intellectual, but occasionally it is the best way to get attention, and it's honestly born out of frustration. I wish to God America was not in this predicament, so you're wrong to think I only hear what I want to hear. The mainstream media is selling us a bill of goods, and if you don't believe me, do some old-fashioned research.

The Breakthrough that Saved my Therapist's Sanity

I'm idiotically assuming that Americans can think, but I'm constantly proven wrong. For a while, I was maturely polite about Chattanooga. But now it's back to shitsville. My attitude sucks! I hate these fucking SUV-driving, Bush-backing, shitwads who can't even slow down in a goddamned school-zone for Christ's sake because they are too busy talking on a motherfucking cell phone! Oh yeah, and Jimmy Page fucking Rules!! I am an infant, really.

BUSH SUPPORTERS PROVEN TO BE ASSHOLES!

A Moulton woman, who says she lost her job for sporting a Kerry-Edwards political sticker on her car, will get a new job from John Kerry. Lynne Rene Gobbell, 41, who lives at 751 Lawrence County 511, said that the Democratic presidential nominee phoned her Tuesday to say that he read an article about her firing and "couldn't believe it." Kerry offered her a job with his campaign. "He told me that he was really sorry that I had lost my job and that he was real proud of me for standing up for what I believed in and for him," Gobbell said. "I was really shocked and shook up." Sunday's DAILY quoted Gobbell as saying that her employer, Philip A. Geddes, who owns Enviromate in Moulton, told her Thursday that she had to remove the sticker from her car. Another manager told her she could " 'either work for him or John Kerry,' " she said. "He (Kerry) read that Phil said that, and he said that 'you can let him know that as of today you're working for John Kerry; you're hired.' I told him it was hard to believe, but that it was wonderful."The sad irony of this is that her hiring will show up as a slight improvement in next month's unemployment report.

THE RAVINGS OF A GANG OF LUNATICS

Everyone in America with a brain should definitely look into a group calling themselves the Project for a New American Century. These reactionaries formed in 1997, well before public interest in Iraq, and is comprised of such luminaries as Don Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney. While they name-drop Reagan in their psychotic rantings, the Reagan Administration distanced themselves from other such radical nutbags in the 80's. The defense plan laid out by these crazies clearly details using Iraq as a starting point in the Middle East to, in succession, invade Iran, Syria, and, eventually, Saudi Arabia.
Here's the link, see for yourselves:
http://www.newamericancentury.org/statementofprinciples.htm
Meanwhile, check out these main principles for fun! See if you can spot those pesky moral dilemmas!
• we need to increase defense spending significantly if we are to carry out our global responsibilities today and modernize our armed forces for the future;
• we need to strengthen our ties to democratic allies and to challenge regimes
hostile to our interests and values;
• we need to promote the cause of political and economic freedom abroad;
• we need to accept responsibility for America's unique role in preserving and extending an international order friendly to our security, our prosperity, and our principles.
What jolly fellows we Americans will be as we traipse about the globe making sure everyone adheres to our values and our principles.
ACHTUNG! VE MUST NOT SHIRK OUR DUTY! VE ARE THE VORLD POLICE!

I'm fucking pathetic, and to top it off, I think Gene is going to try and replace me! I mean, I dreamed the other night that I was on The Apprentice, and Gene was the Donald and he said 'Paul, this is a tough one...YOU'RE FIRED!'" A sad end for a once great prancing idiot.

SHERRY TO PLAY BUDOKAN

http://www.io.com/~jwtlai/AeonFlux/darlaflux2.jpg"a>
Already legendary rockers SHERRY are in Japan to begin an unprecedented two-week stand at famed venue Budokan Hall. The historic Japanese rock house has been the site of concerts by greats like Cheap Trick, Bob Dylan, and the Bay City Rollers, but SHERRY lead man Nick St. Nicholas is unimpressed. "Other than the Rollers, I really don't know who those people are, although I'm sure they might make the bigtime one day!"
SHERRY has sold out every night of the 14 night marathon concert, and they did it in a record-breaking 11 minutes! Even more impressive is the fact that SHERRY will be playing non-stop the entire time. "We figure," says Nicholas, "Why waste time with all that stopping and starting and coming and going, you know? We'll just play straight through the night and get a bit of rest in the morning. I mean, we play for two hours all the time, right?""
When confronted with the fact that two weeks is not the same as two hours, Nicholas is typically non-plussed. "I really can't be bothered with such trivialities as details. Really dear boy, I don't even tie my own shoes! It's just not rock and roll!"
